The Career Guidance Cell of the Faculty of Science, in collaboration with the Career Guidance Unit of the University of Jaffna, successfully organized a Career Fair exclusively for the students of the Faculty of Science on 29th July 2025, from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The event aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world professional demands and was designed to empower students by equipping them with insights, skills, and opportunities essential for building successful and rewarding careers. To prepare students for the event, a CV preparation and interview-facing workshop was conducted on 25th July 2025 at the computer lab of the Department of Computer Science from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Mr. Anu Ragavan (Manager, UBL) served as the resource person for the session. The workshop provided practical guidance and skill-building support, and over 110 students benefitted from this preparatory program.
The Career Fair commenced with an inauguration ceremony held at the Computer Science Auditorium from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM, with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony marked the formal opening of the event and set the tone for a productive day of engagement and networking.
A total of 30 out of 32 registered companies and organizations participated in the fair, including a mix of private sector companies, and government organizations. Over 340 students, including 59 alumni from the Faculty of Science, took part in the event. There were 93 representatives from the participating companies and organizations, providing students with valuable opportunities for interaction and career exploration. Prior to the fair, the CVs of Computer Science students were shared with IFS and Creative Software to facilitate engagement and potential recruitment.
The event was supported by generous sponsors. Sago Overseas Education and Sky Learning Consultancy served as Gold Sponsors, while Edlocate Overseas Education and Residue Solutions were the Silver Sponsors. Their contributions played a vital role in the smooth conduct and success of the event.
The Career Fair was organized with the objectives of connecting students with potential employers and industry professionals, providing insights into various career pathways and industry expectations, enhancing students’ employability skills through workshops and interactive sessions, facilitating internships and job placements through networking opportunities, and raising awareness about emerging trends and opportunities in the field of science.
