Science Weeks – 2025: Celestia Awards Ceremony

The Celestia Awards Ceremony, organised by the Science Faculty Students’ Union, was held on Sunday, 20th July 2025, marking the grand conclusion of Science Weeks – 2025. The 47th batch (Level 3) emerged as the overall champions of the event.

This two-week-long celebration featured a wide array of competitions in athletics, games, aesthetics, and cultural activities, with enthusiastic participation from students across all four levels of study. The event commenced with an inaugural cricket match between the academic staff and final-year students on 4th July 2025.

The event showcased the vibrant talents of the students, featuring a gracefully choreographed welcome dance, musical performances, poetry readings, and a thematic dance that artistically depicted their three-year journey at the university.

The President of the Science Faculty Students’ Union expressed his sincere thanks to all the staff of the Faculty for their special arrangements in enabling student participation across all competitions. He also extended his gratitude to the 8th batch (1982/83 academic year), represented by the Guest of Honour, Mr S. Uthayakumar, for their generous donation of indoor sports items, including table tennis tables and bats, carrom boards, and chess boards.

The Dean of the Faculty of Science expressed his sincere appreciation to the members of the Faculty Board for approving his proposal to make special adjustments to the academic calendar, enabling students to participate in all sports and cultural competitions from 12:00 noon onwards during the two-week period. He emphasised that this initiative aimed to foster students’ multidisciplinary talents and interpersonal skills through active engagement in extracurricular activities. He proudly noted that student participation had doubled compared to previous years. Furthermore, he highlighted that students were not only enthusiastic participants in the competitions but also took the lead in organising outreach programmes—including seminars and workshops—through their societies and union, with a particular focus on promoting STEM education in underprivileged areas of the Northern Province.

The Guest of Honour, Mr S. Uthayakumar, a distinguished alumnus of the Faculty and former Provincial Director of Education, Northern Province, congratulated the winners and praised the Faculty for its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals. He commended the Faculty’s efforts in facilitating student participation in sports and cultural events, as well as supporting student societies in conducting impactful outreach activities—particularly those promoting STEM education in the region, noting the urgent need to strengthen STEM education in the Northern Province. He encouraged the Faculty to continue its outreach efforts to help improve pass rates in national examinations.

The 47th batch (Level 3), 48th batch (Level 2), and 49th batch (Level 1) were named Overall Champion, First Runner-Up, and Second Runner-Up respectively of Science Weeks – 2025.
