Payback to the Faculty of Science

Our Alumni generously contributed to the following projects in addition to their great contribution toward sustaining the mid-day meal programme of the university.

Life Skills programme for personality development & Social Action Projects

The programmes stand as one of the successful initiatives of the Faculty of Science. The students have been provided adequate training to hone their interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, planning skills, organizational management and leadership skills. They were given an insight into the need to understand the differences that exist among the cultures and the need to live in harmony. The unwavering dedication and hard work of the students in conducting these Student Action Projects (SAPs) deserve our heartfelt appreciation. This programme was thoughtfully planned and executed with meticulous precision by the team of facilitators, especially Prof. K. Gajapathy. We are immensely grateful for the financial support provided by the Jaffna University Graduate Association, Australia. More detail can be found in the following shared files

With the assistance of a couple of alumni, the above works have been completed at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. If other Alumni or their batch wants to provide assistance for enhancing facilities in the lecture halls/laboratories and faculty premises, they may contact me or the respective HoDs.

Alumni Reunion

More than thirty Physical Science  students of  the 1982/83 batch of the Faculty of Science visited the faculty on 25.05.2023 after more than four decades   to rejoice at the place where they studied, played and enjoyed friendship  and to commemorate the university life.

On their visit,  they donated indoor sports items: TT table with bats, carrom and chess boards to the Science Students Union (SSU). On behalf of the Faculty of Science Alumni Association (FOSAA), its exco members received the Indoor sports items  and then handed over the same to the SSU.

Furthermore,  they wholeheartedly donated LKR 500,000.00 to the Community Kitchen project towards sustaining the provision of  midday meals to the students. Their contribution was greatly appreciated by the university community. The faculty and FoSAA  facilitated  their Reunion Event at the Faculty. They also handed over mementos to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor S. Sristkunarajah and  Dean of the Faculty, Professor P. Ravirajan, appreciating their significant contributions to the University.

Finally they thanked the  executive committee members of FOSAA for their arrangements to hold  the reunion at the Faculty premises and for their participation.

More than thirty five Physical Science  students of  the 1983/84 batch of the Faculty of Science visited the faculty on 06.07.2023 with the traditional dress after about four decades to rejoice at the place where they studied, played and enjoyed friendship and to commemorate the university life.
